Two lanes were closed for hours on Route 24 after a large sinkhole opened up near Stoughton Sunday evening, officials said.
Massachusetts State Police announced just after 2 p.m. that the two right lanes heading southbound near mile 37 were closed due to the sinkhole. At 8 p.m., police said “temporary repairs” allowed traffic to flow again.
@MassDOT has completed all temporary repairs and all lanes are open.

A reporter with WCVB at the scene described the sinkhole as about a lane wide and two feet deep. Their video of the scene showed crawling traffic and a busy construction site.
The sinkhole caused delays for travelers heading to Cape Cod for the holiday week. See Boston.com’s traffic map to see live traffic conditions across the state.
