The New York Times says this New England destination is perfect for a late summer trip

It’s not too late to get away this season and The New York Times says one of the best places worldwide for a late summer trip is in Vermont.

The publication released a list of six destinations great for late summer travel on Friday and included the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont; Rio de Janeiro; Olympic National Park in Washington; Aruba; Medellin, Colombia; and Laguna Beach in California.

“The Northeast Kingdom of Vermont is an overlooked, rural part of the state near the border with Quebec. That means in the winter it is bitterly cold. But in the summer? Gorgeous,” wrote The New York Times.

Hikers can enjoy the Kingdom Heritage Trail System and bikers can tackle the longest rail trail in New England — the 93-mile Lamoille Valley Rail Trail, wrote the publication. Farms abound and August brings Vermont Open Farm Week, taking place Aug. 4-11, which features hands-on farm activities and a behind-the-scenes look at many local farms.

The region is also affordable, noted the publication, with two-person cabins available for about $110 per night.
