The Boston Public Library’s recently reopened Faneuil branch in Brighton has been closed since last week due to problems with the branch’s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, or HVAC, system.
The branch closed early last Wednesday due to “air conditioning difficulties,” the branch posted on Facebook. The Faneuil branch closed early on Thursday and did not open on Friday.
Last week, the library said the branch in Oak Square would be closed through Tuesday due to the air conditioning issues and that extended to Wednesday to work on repairing the system.
“We will keep you updated. THANK YOU for your patience,” the branch wrote on Facebook Monday. “We will continue to hold all holds – we understand our patrons have not been able to collect their hold items and we are extending all claim periods during this time.”
The branch closed in 2020 for a $14 million renovation and reopened in January. Updates to the branch included accessibility and technology upgrades, a community room, and a new children’s space.
BPL did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday night.
