It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No… it’s the Weinermobile!
The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile is making the rounds in Massachusetts this weekend. The hot dog-shaped car was spotted in Somerville Wednesday before it paid a visit to Boston College.

How old is the Wienermobile?
The Wienermobile will celebrate its 87th birthday this year. It began in 1936 as an idea from Oscar Mayer’s nephew, Carl, who thought a giant hot dog rolling through the streets of Chicago would be a great way to get customers from different parts of the city interested in the company. Since then, the fleet of Wienermobiles has expanded to six vehicles that roam across the country all throughout the year.
Who drives the Wienermobile?
Hotdoggers, of course! Hotdoggers have a full-time, yearlong tenure at the wheel of the vehicle. If you want to be a Hotdogger yourself, Oscar Mayer looks for recent college graduates who specialize in communications and want to “meat” people across the country. Hotdoggers don’t live in the car, but the interior of the 27-foot-long vehicle has its quirks. It is home to some funky ketchup-and-mustard upholstery, six seats, a television, and a hot dog-shaped dashboard. Rumor has it you can ask the Hotdogger for a tour!
How can I track the Wienermobile?
All six vehicles are on the road, and you can follow their journey online and on the Wienermobile app.
