It’s possible to enter this Home of the Week, a mid-century modern ranch, through the attached two-car garage, a highly sought-after amenity in blistering or blustery New England weather.
But you would also miss the sense of serenity of walking on the flagstone sidewalk that curves across the wide lawn to two doors: one in the front and one on the side of the home. The first door opens into the middle of the interior of this one-floor home, but by keeping on the path to the second door, you have more time to enjoy the rolling lawn on the 1.4-acre lot.
The far side door opens into a living room where continued immersion into the country setting is, luckily, inescapable. Four large plate-glass windows topped with screened transom windows are on one wall. A smaller set of four plate-glass windows on another wall makes the landscaped yard seem like a framed nature photograph. There is reason enough to focus on the room itself, the most obvious being the updated woodburning fireplace, which has a marble frame.

The flooring here and in all but the kitchen, baths, and family room (engineered hardwood) is Trail Oak luxury plank vinyl.
Past the fireplace, there’s an extension of the living room into a large family/gaming room that includes a dry bar setup right before the doorway into the recently updated kitchen. The kitchen, the heart of this Berkshires home, is lithe and sleek like an Olympic runner. The flooring is ceramic tile, the backsplash is travertine, and the counters are Corian. The hickory cabinets — some with glass fronts — include a niche perfect for a coffee bar and have under-mount lighting. The appliances are stainless steel, including the electric stove. Like other rooms, there are substantially sized windows. Here, one can access the side entrance and a half bath with ceramic tile flooring.

The dining room is just around the corner from the kitchen. It now has a table for six located underneath an ultra-modern light fixture that looks like a tornado. The room includes two closets — one of them cedar — and open shelving.

A short hallway from the dining room leads to the three bedrooms. Snuggled between them is the one full bath in the home. It features ceramic tile flooring, a single vanity, and a shower/bath combination behind a curtain.
The primary bedroom, found in the farthest corner of this Berkshires house, comes with a pair of windows and two closets. The two smaller bedrooms have wide windows and sliding-door closets.

The property includes a screened gazebo and a flagstone patio.

Forbes named Pittsfield one of the 25 best places to retire, citing several factors, including a median home price that was 28 percent below the national rate, good air quality, access to medical care, and proximity to both Boston and Albany. This home is about 10 miles from the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s summer home in the Berkshires, Tanglewood.
Broker Tiffany Roberts of Roberts and Associates Inc. in Lenox has the Berkshires listing.
