Officer hospitalized after being hit by car in Dorchester

The officer suffered nonlife-threatening injuries, and police arrested two men on firearm and trespassing charges.

A Boston police officer was injured Tuesday night when a suspect fleeing a scene in Dorchester struck him with a car, according to police.

Officers responded to the area of 33 Stanton St. around 11:36 p.m. for a report of a person with a gun, the Boston Police Department said in a news release. Four men were gathered around two parked cars in a no-trespassing zone, according to the release.

As officers exited their cruisers, two of the men allegedly jumped over a fence toward Norfolk Street, while another hopped into one of the cars and attempted to flee. The vehicle accelerated toward officers “at a high rate of speed,” forcing one of the officers onto the hood and rolling him off to the side, police said.

Officers found one of the suspects in the parking lot and placed him in handcuffs, also pursuing the two men who jumped the fence, police said. The officers were able to locate another suspect near 234 Norfolk St. and handcuffed him, allegedly recovering a firearm from his shorts pocket.

Police arrested both men, identified as Markeith Walton, 21, of Marlborough, and Robert Scott, 26, of Mattapan. Walton is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, and trespassing. According to police, Walton also had a warrant out for his arrest on multiple firearm offenses. Scott is charged with trespassing.

Both men are expected to be arraigned in the Dorchester division of Boston Municipal Court.

The second car remained unoccupied in the parking lot, and officers allegedly saw a firearm sitting in plain view in the passenger seat. A search of the surrounding area turned up a large capacity magazine loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition, and officers also found another firearm just feet from the fence two of the suspects jumped over, according to police.

Boston police identified the weapons as “a Polymer 80 with one round in the chamber, a Smith and Wesson M&P with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine, and a Glock 43 with six rounds in the magazine.”
