Brewster police officer arrested on child porn charges

Matthew B. Marshall has been placed on administrative leave by the Brewster Police Department after being arrested on child pornography charges.

A Brewster police officer was arrested after his shift Wednesday afternoon on several child pornography charges, authorities said. 

Matthew B. Marshall was arrested by members of the Massachusetts State Police Cyber Crimes Unit/Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, according to the office of Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert J. Galibois.

He is charged with possession of child pornography, dissemination of child pornography, defacement of real or personal property, unlawful communication of record information, and photos taken outside of first responder’s official duties. 

Marshall has been placed on administrative leave by the Brewster Police Department, according to the DA’s office. In addition, Brewster Police Chief Heath Eldredge suspended his license to carry a firearm and his service weapon has been taken from him.

Marshall is expected to be arraigned Thursday in Orleans District Court, the DA’s office said. Attorney information for Marshall was not immediately available.
